The Hsinchu County Hakka Yimin Festival is held at the Yimin Temple in Xinpu, and is an outstanding and successful example of using traditional religious culture to develop tourist activities. Apart from traditional ritual activities, the Hakka Yimin Festival also pairs innovative elements with traditional culture via installation art exhibitions, Hakka opera and singing performances. For instance, the record-setting 2013 Hakka Yimin Festival invited 35 Yimin Temple branches and over 50 performing troupes to take part in a street parade through various ceremonial areas. Over 10,000 people were immersed in a bustling festive atmosphere as the festival got underway. A painted sacred pig in the height of 4 meters and weighing one ton attracted tremendous attention from festival participants.
