The blooming of northern Taiwan's tung trees not only sets the stage for spring, but also bears witness to the long historical struggles of the Hakka people. Also one of the Hakka Community’s 12 Hakka festivals, the "Tung Blossom Festival" combines the a series of activities with the beautiful snowy blossoms of the local tung trees, and showcases Hsinchu County's beautiful scenery and distinctive Hakka cultural features.
The Hakka Tung Blossom Festival encourages visitors to appreciate the tung blossoms during the day and look for fireflies at night. Various activities are held during the day at different locations in Hengshan, Baoshan, Beipu, Emei, Jianshi, Hukou, Xinpu, and Guanxi Township. Visitors can listen to music as they appreciate the beauty of the hills covered with flowering tung trees, and afterwards taste some Hakka cooking. In the evening, travelers can enjoy the romantic night while appreciating the fireflies at the most optimal site──Dashanbei Hakka culture center in Hengshan Township or Dongwo, Nanping, and Nanwo in Neiwan.
